Brighton Speed Trials

The Brighton Speed Trials is commonly held to be the oldest running motor race in the UK: the first race was held in 1905. Traction of the line appeared to be the main issue with the FVL; however, the final run of the day recorded a 14.59 secon 1/4 mile with a final speed of 108.5 mph. This was never going to set the records alight, but it was useful testing for standing race starts.

For the 2019 Reprise IT Tiedeman Trophy Championship, a cold but dry morning meant that it was possible to learn the track and improve times. However, the afternoon races were another matter. Torrential rain in race 1 actually worked to the advantage of having rain tires well past their prime, in inches of standing water the hard tires worked very well resulting in a hard fought 3rd place. But race 2 had only damp/slick conditions that resulted in unbelievable understeer. Nevertheless, another 3rd place resulted due to others attrition.
