Homestead
28 January 2017
Running the old-spec Fun Cup against the EVO3 was always going to be difficult. But, the car was actually competitive in the corners and the in-field at Homestead in Florida. Unfortunately, it had previously run on E85 which had caused damage to the rings and meant that oil blow-by was a constant issue, that led to eventual engine failure. Irrespective of the result, a great time was had by all.
Brands hatch GP
20 - 21 May 2017
The weekend turned into a trouble shooting exercise with fuel starvation caused by the new ATL cell.
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
7 - 9 July 2017
A frustrating event, with being crashed into by a driver who fixated on an of track spin, which shortened qualifying to a blown motor after a few hours. A race to forget, despite the wonderful venue.
Donington Park
1 October 2017
After a very wet qualifying, Race 1 was started on rain tires (the wrong choice) which allowed advancement from 14th to about 8th in 2 laps; however, as the track dried those on slicks got faster and 11th was the best result possible (3rd in class). The 2nd best qualifying lap meant starting the race 11th (this time on slicks despite a still wet track), and again significant advancement was achieved resulting in a 5th overall and 2nd in class.
Daytona
9 - 12 November 2017
After qualifying well (especially in the dark) and winning class in the qualifying race, the clutch blew during the 1st session of the 24 hour. As a result I finished the weekend crewing for a friend in his 1962 Volvo PV544.
Sebring International Raceway
30 November - 3 December 2017
Another frustrating weekend, with the diff bearing going in the 2nd hour of the four 1 hour sessions. However, and excellent result (1st in class) in the Bob Woodman International/American Challenge made up for the problems in the Classic 12 Hour. Finished the weekend driving the Volvo PV544 to a 1st in class in the Classic 12 Hour.
